New York City is gearing up for what could be its snowiest winter since 2020, according to meteorologist Allan Nosoff, who predicts the city may receive 25–35 inches of snow this season. That’s higher than recent years, though still far below the city’s record-breaking 75-inch winter of 1995–1996.

Temperatures have already taken a sharp drop, with the first freeze warning and first flurries arriving earlier this November. Forecasts suggest December and January will be colder than average, making them the most likely months for significant snow. February, on the other hand, is expected to trend warmer.

AccuWeather projects a slightly lower estimate of 17–21 inches, but both forecasts agree: NYC is in for noticeably more snow than the past few winters. Whether La Niña brings travel chaos or just a few icy mornings remains to be seen — but the city’s cold season has undeniably begun.
